We would like to send to our sincere condolences to family relatives and friends of Kevin Mulligan aged 26 who was killed in Afghanistan recently.

HALL OF FAME HONOUR FOR JOHN THOMSON

CELTIC goalkeeping legend John Thomson will be inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. And in a break with tradition, his inclusion has been announced ahead of the gala dinner in November.

Thomson was only 22 when he tragically died following a collision with Rangers striker Sam English during a game at Ibrox on September 5, 1931.

Although still a young man, John Thomson had already established himself as Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper and had made 188 appearances for the club following his debut against Cowdenbeath in November 1929. He was also Scotland’s No.1 goalkeeper by the time of his tragic and untimely death.

Over the past two years, John Thomson has received many nominations for the Hall of Fame, including one from Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

The Prime Minister, who is a Fife MP, from where the Celtic keeper came from, said: “John Thomson would have been 100 years old next year and it would be a fitting tribute for this local hero to be given his rightful place alongside Scotland's football elite.”

Inductees into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame are those truly great players, managers and officials who have reached the pinnacle of their profession and have made a significant contribution to Scottish football’s reputation through their skill, spirit and determination.

The Hall of Fame is a permanent feature in the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park.

IMPORTANT CAR PARKING INFORMATION FOR FANS

CELTIC supporters coming to home games for this season should note that the grassed area opposite Celtic Park has now been totally fenced off and building work has begun on the National Indoor Sports Arena for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

As a result, fans who have parked in that area will no longer be able to do so.

However, Celtic have obtained the use of three areas where parking will be offered to supporters. These areas are:

• Hollywell Street (just off Janefield Street; former football pitch)

• Car park at the front of the Creamery – just off of Gallowgate.

• John Wheatley College, Haghill Road.

Please note that spaces are limited and are strictly on a first come, first served basis.

The car parks will be stewarded and time restrictions on entry to and egress from Hollywell Street and the Creamery area will apply.

These areas will be accessible from three hours until one hour prior to kick-off.

Tommy Burns a true Celtic legend and ex player and manager passes away

It is with great sadness that Celtic Football Club confirmed this morning that Tommy Burns has passed away.

Tommy, a true Celtic Legend and wonderful man will be sadly missed by us all.

Clearly, our thoughts are very much with Tommy's wife Rosemary and his family at this extremely difficult time.

A further announcement will be issued in due course.

TOMMY BURNS RIP

Another Celtic legend Tommy Burns sadly passed away this morning.

Tommy was very much a big big help to The Affiliation of Registered CSC’S throughout his years with Celtic Football Club.

The fact that he has now gone will take a long long time to sink in with Celtic supporters throughout the world; our thoughts are with Tommy’s wife Rosemary and his family and friends at this very sad time.

This puts everything into perspective.

Tommy Burns RIP you will never walk alone.

CHAIRMAN: WE LOVED TOMMY AS ONE OF OUR OWN

CELTIC Chairman John Reid has described Tommy Burns as ‘a true gentleman’ and spoke of the immense sadness the Celtic family feels at the news of Tommy’s death.

The Chairman said: “The passing of Tommy Burns is devastating news and my sincere and heartfelt sympathies go to Rosemary and Tommy's family.

“Tommy is someone who was loved by so many of us. He was a man of true integrity and dignity. As a Celtic player, manager and coach, Tommy served Celtic with distinction and true professionalism.

“He was a true gentleman and someone who had the ability to connect and engage with anyone he met.

“As Celtic supporters we recognised Tommy as one of our own and Tommy in turn was always delighted to spend time in the company of fellow fans.

“It was a privilege to know Tommy Burns. He was a man who gave so much to the club he loved over so many years.

“Tommy's passing will be mourned by the entire Celtic family.

He will be hugely missed by us all, but he is someone we will never ever forget.”

GENTLEMAN

Tommy Burns was a much-loved figure among the Celtic supporters and they paid tribute to him this morning.

Peter Rafferty, of the Affiliation of Registered Celtic Supporters' Clubs, said: "I knew Tommy very well both as a friend and obviously through his connections with Celtic. I got to know him over many years.

"He was a true gentleman and a big family man. I would just like to pass my condolences on to Rosemary and his family on behalf of the Celtic supporters.

"Celtic was a big part of his life but the biggest part of his life was his family. He became a grandfather a few weeks ago and that is the biggest tragedy.

"Legend is a word that is used quite a lot these days but he was. He was a great player with Celtic first and foremost.

"He was a manager who played football the way Celtic supporters like to see it.

"All these things pale into insignificance this morning. He was a very nice person, a very religious person.

"If you needed anything, Tommy Burns would always be there for you."
