DIXIE DEANS TRIBUTE EVENING

Glasgow Moat House Hotel
Congress Road, Glasgow
Sunday 16th November 2003

It came as a complete surprise to everybody, none more
so than Dixie himself, when Jock Stein swooped to sign
a certain John Deans from Motherwell in October 1971.
Considering he had the shortest fuse in Scottish
football and was serving a six week suspension at the
time, many thought the Big Man had finally lost the
plot. It turned out to be the deal of the decade as
far as Celtic was concerned. At £17,500 Jock had
bought a bargain and proved the sceptics completely
wrong.
Dixie immediately struck up a rapport with the Celtic
fans who admired his no-nonsense¹ style of football
and an ability to constantly out-jump much taller
opponents, scoring regularly with ease.
Hibernian can testify to this as in 13 matches
against the Edinburgh side, he scored an amazing 18
goals, including two hat-tricks. One in the 1972
Scottish Cup Final and one in the 1974 League Cup
Final.
Partick Thistle can also claim a part in the
Scottish Footballing History books as Dixie belted 6
past them on 17th November 1973!
He will always have a special place in the hearts
of the Celtic fans as a popular, powerful and lively
player.
We are immensely proud and privileged to stage this
prestigious dinner.
A memorable evening is guaranteed with excellent food
and superb entertainment, making it an ideal corporate
hospitality occasion to entertain clients and
companies.
Tables are £450 for ten persons and as numbers are
strictly limited they will be in great demand. So
reserve your table now and be present while we honour
one of Scotland¹s great characters.

BROTHER WALFRID MEMORIAL TRUST

Our first event took place last Friday evening at the
Kerrydale Suite at Celtic Park; the event took the
form of a charity race night, buffet & disco.

A crowd of around 200 enjoyed the event and it was
great to see the event being supported by Celtic
Director Michael McDonald and ex Celts Bertie Auld,
Willie O’Neill and Danny McGrain. As is usual with
such evening the spadework for organising the event
was planned over a number of meetings between
representatives of The Celtic Supporters Association,
The Affiliation and The Celtic Trust. Also on hand to
at these meetings was Jim Ward who tireless work for
the club never ceases to amaze the folk that know him.
Our thanks go to all who attended and supported the
event and to all who made donations however large or
small through sponsorship of the races and the prizes
for the raffle. A special mention for the Houston
Bobby Lennox C.S.C. who have promised a donation of
$200 from the 50/50 sweep they held at the Old Firm
match two weeks, our thanks to President Iain
Carmichael & Treasurer John Fortucci and the members
of the Houston Bobby Lennox C.S.C. for their kind
donation. Early indications suggest that Friday
night’s event raised in excess of £3,000 a fabulous
start to our fund raising campaign.
