Wednesday 21st December 2005
SEASON GREETINGS The Affiliation wishes to send out Seasons Greetings to Celtic Supporters Worldwide and to the Board, the Players, and the Management and all staff at the club we sincerely hope that everyone has a very special Christmas Day on Sunday 25th December 2005 and a Champion New Year for 2006 starting on Sunday 01st January 2006. MEETINGS Our thanks to Celtic’s Chief Executive Peter Lawwell & Ticket Services Manager John Paul Taylor for taking the time out recently to hold meetings with The Affiliation. HOSPITALITY DAY Two delegates from the Tokyo CSC Martin Burns & Owen Neal will represent the Affiliation at the Hospitality Day provided by Celtic FC at the SPL game against Livingston on Boxing Day, Monday 26th December 2005. The far travelled members of this branch will be making a special presentation to Shunsuke Nakamura prior to the game taking place. A few words by the social secretary and one of the delegates attending follows below. Tokyo CSC Since the euphoria surrounding Shunsuke Nakamura’s signing has inevitably waned, and we get down to the day to day living and playing in the SPL, the Tokyo CSC is left with the ‘real’ fans, either of Shunsuke himself, Celtic FC or football itself. This, however, is not a bad thing at all. We at the CSC expected a large influx of new members at the announcement of his signing and while that is true to a certain extent in that the amount of people attending the games shown live at Paddy Foley’s Irish pub in Roppongi, Tokyo, has more than tripled, this has not actually transpired into people joining the club and paying their subs. In terms of membership we have stayed the same (around 30 members). But the variety of the new fans attending games is very refreshing indeed and only adds to the incredible atmosphere we create in the pub. We have found these new fans turning up the next time with more friends because they’ve been talking about the great night they had and their friends want to see this for themselves. They then bring new people the next time and so on and so on and the Celtic family increases as the word gets around. My own work colleagues (mostly women) have all come down to the pub to watch games with me and are all completely converted to the cause. Monday mornings always start off with a review of that weekend’s game and how well Shunsuke played! I teach English to kids and quite often wear my hoops to work and obviously I talk about Celtic to the kids who are interested in ‘soccer’ (as it’s called here!), and I am now heading back to Scotland for the Christmas holidays with 3 separate orders for kids-sized hoops!!! Next lesson will be the words to the Celtic song! Japanese football fans are renowned for being just that – fans of football. When I find out someone likes the game I ask them, ‘What team do you support?’ The look of sheer puzzlement on their faces is quite amazing as they say ‘Team? I like all teams, I like soccer!’ The other type of fan is the personality type fan. They’ll follow a particular player, no matter which team he plays for. The perfect example of this is of course David Beckham. When at Manchester United, all you could see was red Man U tops, the day after joining Real Madrid, it was all white Real tops and the red Man U was hardly ever seen again (a very good thing in my opinion anyway!). However, I feel quite proud when I talk to our new friends here and they tell me how they’ll still support Celtic if and when Shunsuke leaves us… because we make watching a game of football such fun!!! A new DEDICATED Singing Section will be opened on January 14th at the Celtic v Kilmarnock match. Anyone interested in getting behind the team for 90 minutes win lose or draw and getting back to the days when we were the 12th man should contact the celticjungle.bhoys@ntlworld.com ASAP Those who relocate will keep the conditions of their present season ticket and will move back to their own seat for the visit of Rangers, in the unlikely event that they make the split, subject to availability. Any Supporters Clubs who want to sit together en masse are encouraged to contact us NOW. 2. The Flags & Banners debate has reached a conclusion whereby any CSC or individual who wishes to bring their banner to home matches is free to do so subject to the set down criteria being agreed. The Jungle Bhoys are keen not just to bring back the vocals to Celtic Park, but the visuals too. The Jungle Bhoys have offered to administer the registration of all banners. What are you waiting for? Get your CSC banner registered NOW and get them back where they belong at Celtic Park! 3. Any supporters Club or individual who would like to hang their banners at Celtic Park on a permanent basis are invited to do. The Club are happy to announce an initiative whereby banners can be hung along the back wall of the top tier and front tier in an effort to brighten the place up. Contact the Jungle Bhoys for more information.
