BOBBY MURDOCH TRIBUTE NIGHT
A crowd of over 200 turned up last week at The
Fauldhouse Miners Club for a tribute night to the late
Celtic legend Bobby Murdoch. Guests in attendance
included Bobby’s ex team mate’s Bertie Auld, Joe
McBride, John Fallon and current Celtic skipper Jackie
McNamara. The evening’s entertainment was provided by
Scotland’s own Lena Martell, comedian Bert Allan and
singers Lauren Kyle, Kirk James and Showband LA-X. The
auction on the evening was a resounding success. The
Lochee CSC donated a fantastic canvas mural of Bobby.
The whole evening was put together by Jim Bevridge and
his hard work over the last few months was very much
appreciated by Bobby’s wife Kathleen and her family.
Our thanks go to Celtic FC who gave us permission to
take the replica European Cup along for the evening
and this helped to round off a really great night. A
special souvenir programme and DVD of the evening was
put together for the evening and we hope to have some
of these available for sale in the next few weeks on
our website www.affreg-celtic.co.uk

THE 3RD EUROPEAN
SUPPORTERS CUP
Will be played in Barcelona, Spain on Saturday, 28th
May 2005, involving a mix of supporter’s teams from
all over Europe in a friendly, but competitive
atmosphere. This is an invitation to see if you might
be interested in sending a team of Celtic fans to join
us for this superb footballing event. The games are
played at Spanish first division club RCD Espanyol's
excellent training facilities, with high quality
artificial pitches, not far from the city centre. We
do everything to make sure that football comes first,
and all participating teams will play a minimum of
four forty minute matches in a seriously organised
competition. Teams from all over Europe are invited to
take part – the idea being that they are
representative of the different clubs or national
teams that they support or are named after – so we
much prefer it if teams play in that team’s kit. The
event is followed by a meal and trophy presentation
for all teams taking part. Our all-inclusive package
covers three nights hotel accommodation in central
Barcelona; all match fees, transport between the
airport, hotel and tournament venue, and the
all-you-can-eat post-tournament gala meal. We can also
arrange a friendly on Sunday either against one of the
competing teams or against a local Catalan team. All
of this for just 300 euros per player and 250 euros
per guest. All you need to do is get yourselves here -
we’ll see to the rest. As well as the football, there
are always plenty of other things to see and do in
Barcelona, and the weather is usually great in late
May (and there is a terrific beach in Barcelona). We
can arrange tickets to see RCD Espanyol’s last game of
the season at the Olympic Stadium (against Athletic
Club Bilbao). As both Espanyol and Bilbao have teams
in our tournament, we will ensure that the tournament
does not coincide with the game, so that everybody
gets the chance to go. Music fans will be interested
to know that the Primavera Sound festival will be held
that weekend, which always includes some big name
bands. Now in its third year, this is a truly
international football event, and it would be great if
you were able to join us! For more information you can
reach us me Mike Roberts by email:

have a look at our web site at www.salbcn.com.

Recent donations have come in from the Webmaster of
celticbars.com and The Peter Scarff CSC (Linwood) the
club held a function recently in St Brendan’s Social
Club Linwood and it was unanimously agreed that they
would donate some of the profits to those affected in
the Tsunami disaster.
The night proved to be a huge success with around 270
people turning up. It was organised fairly quickly and
so special thanks goes to the St Brendan’s club and
their staff for agreeing to host the event and also to
members who done a great job in quickly spreading the
word and selling tickets (especially Anne, Mary,
Tracy, Kieran and John).
SUPPORTERS CLUB EVENTS
The Hawick Shamrock CSC event that featured in last
week’s column was a night held to raise fund for the
Jimmy Johnstone Trust (Motor Neurone Disease),
The event took place on Friday 4th February at the
Hawick Burns Club.
The evening started of with a recorded video from
Jimmy welcoming the members along to the dinner. (This
brought a tear to the eye!)
Lisbon lions Bertie Auld & Jim Craig joined along with
Dixie Deans entertained the members with some
fantastic stories mixed with wit & humour.
160 members attended the event and helped raise the
fantastic sum of approx £10,000. An auction of signed
shirts by top stars plus a special holiday in Ireland
was a special feature of the evening
Five lucky members got to speak to Jimmy in the
evening via a phone link-up to his house.
The evening was finished of with live music by one of
the members from the Dubliners.
A great night was had by all and the committee pass on
their thanks to all concerned.

CONDOLENCES
The Hay Paisley CSC & The Coventry Hay CSS
Our two clubs would like to express our deepest
sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Peter
McBarron whose sudden and untimely death shocked us
all.
Peter was a well kent face at Celtic Park working as a
steward in the main stand for 40 years where his son
Des now works on match days.
Peter was a true lifelong fan and will be greatly
missed by all who knew him, a really nice and caring
person.
God bless.
