GREEN LIGHT FOR LENNOXTOWN

Celtic have been handed a boost in their bid to build a new training ground. The Bhoys have received outline planning permission to build a new training ground north of Glasgow.

East Dumbartonshire Council's planning board have given Celtic the green light to build the proposed training ground on the upper site of the Lennox Castle Hospital, in Lennoxtown.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell was delighted that the club had made progress in their pursuit of new training ground facilities. "This is excellent news and a very positive step forward," Lawwell told the club's official site.

"Lennoxtown is presently our preferred location for the club's new training facility and we hope to make a decision within the next few months."  Celtic hope to build a training academy, hostel accommodation for young players, and six full-scale pitches, with the centre to become Celtic's base away from Parkhead.

The complex is expected to cost Celtic in the region of £7 million.

Chief Executive Peter Lawwell reassures fans

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has moved to reassure fans that the club are not going to let Stilian Petrov slip through their fingers, and will offer him a new contract soon. Speculation has been rife that the Bulgarian playmaker will walk out of Parkhead when his contract ends and he has been linked with moves to Newcastle and Blackburn.
However, Lawwell insists that the rumours are without foundation and that the club and the player are simply taking their time. "It's very early in the discussions," he revealed to the Scottish Daily Mail. "We started them 20 months early and there is no need for panic, we've got time.
"We had one offer from Fulham in the summer, but that was rejected out of hand. "We know clubs will be looking but, equally, we know what we've got to work with and we will do all we can to keep Stilian."
